Current Projects

Community Connections

The Community Connections Committee plans and oversees short-term community projects, including, but not limited to “Done In A Day” projects. Past Community Connections projects include the National GE Wellness Tour, Race for the Cure Survivor's Reception, Girls, Inc. Thanksgiving Celebration, Hope House Christmas Party and the annual Junior League / Second Harvest Food Bank Food Drive to name a few.

Kids in the Kitchen

The Junior League of Kingsport will once again host an education initiative on childhood obesity and nutrition in several Kingsport and Sullivan County schools, Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen, along with more than 200 Leagues from the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI). 

 

JLK Community Service Scholarship

In the spring of each year, the Junior League of Kingsport’s Community Service Scholarship Award program provides a $1000 scholarship to a young woman who meets the following criteria:

    1. Currently enrolled as a senior in a public or private high school in the Kingsport/Sullivan County area or enrolled in a licensed home schooling program within this area.
    2. Demonstrates a commitment to volunteerism through an outstanding record of participation and leadership in service-oriented activities. These may include, but are not limited to, civic activities, church activities, scouting activities or any other community services, either through an established service agency or individually.
    3. Maintains a consistent record of academic achievement within a challenging curriculum.

        Junior League of Kingsport Mini-Grants Program

The Junior League of Kingsport (JLK) Mini-Grants program is designed to meet an immediate, specific need within the community. It also allows JLK to extend its service to the community by supporting other non-profit agencies with similar focus areas.  Mini-Grant applications are accepted each fall, and Mini-Grants are awarded in January / February of each year.

Mini-Grant requests that serve a need within the following focus areas will be given consideration: (1) developing the potential of women and (2) promoting educational opportunities for children and youth. Please read carefully the following guidelines to qualify your application:

    1. Applicants must have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS or be within an agency with 501(c)(3) status.
    2. Requests WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE FOLLOWING:  fundraising drives, building fund or capital campaigns, individual or religious projects, or to cover administrative expenses
    3. A Mini-Grant application must be completed and include the required supportive materials/documents before the grant may be considered.
    4. Applications are considered individually on an annual basis. Prior receipt of a JLK grant will be taken into consideration.
    5. Current Junior League of Kingsport projects, or projects being considered by JLK for the following year, are ineligible.
    6. When a Mini-Grant is awarded, the applicant must sign a contract with JLK, which includes a requirement for recognition of Junior League of Kingsport.
    7. Mini-Grant recipients are required to return an evaluation form detailing use of the grant funds within 9 months of the date awarded.
